Community Engagement and ABCD

When your Centre considers funding agreement outcomes, the needs of the community and developing its programs, how do you know the following:

  • What activities will the community attend and, possibly (preferably), pay for?
  • Will people come back to the Centre?
  • Do people feel welcome at the Centre?
  • Will the activities meet the outcomes that government or funder want?
  • What does the government/funder want?
  • Will the Centre get funded again?
  • What is the Centre’s long-term business strategy?

The ANSWER: Engagement!  Community Engagement.

Community Engagement is the process of working collaboratively with and through groups of people affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situations to address issues affecting the well-being of those people.

Linkwest has developed a community engagement resource based upon Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) to help your Centre engage with your community.

The resource is broken into 5 sections:

  • Intro and how to use this resource
  • An overview of ABCD
  • Strategic Planning (using ABCD)
  • Operational Planning (using ABCD)
  • Additional information: a curated set of ABCD resources, created by best-practice practitioners including the ABCD Institute and the Jeder Institute.
